Cargo for Kenya must be inspected at origin – Change in Policy

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

On Wednesday, January 24, 2019, Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya said that the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) will no longer be allowed to carry out inspection for goods entering the Kenyan market without a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity to Standards (PVOC).  Cargo must be inspected at ORIGIN PORT only.  Destination inspections are no longer allowed.  Failure to comply will result in immediate rejection of cargo at the time of discharge, and shipment will be sent back to its origin.

Kenya appointed inspection agencies stationed in various parts of the world to carry out the inspection on behalf of Kebs. These agencies are:

Bureau Veritas S.A,
Intertek International Limited,
China Certification and Inspection Company Limited (CCIC)
Cotecna Inspection S.A
